Health Effects Study Group

Exposure to outdoor air pollution is now widely accepted as being associated with a broad range of acute and chronic health effects, ranging from minor physiologic disturbances to death especially from respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The Health Effect Study Group in this project aimed an epidemiologic research to provide an estimate of acute and chronic cardiopulmonary health effects from exposure to air pollutants, both in healthy and risky population (patients with chronic airway and cardiovascular diseases). The research was organised as to identify the relation between the changes in concentration of pollutants and respiratory symptoms, hospital admissions of risky groups and also mortality, esp cardiopulmonary mortality.
